Babyrama

Hey Folks,

Chris and I have broke new ground.  A prior client, Elise, who is involved with a local mom’s group contacted us with an idea.   After receiving her portraits from her family shoot,  she approached us with the idea of a mom’s group session totaling 6 babies and their mothers.  Chris and I hadn’t done a kid session of this size before but thanks to Elise’s master organizing it came together tight.   The group is based in Oakland and a local location was going to work best.  Lake Temescal, which is a favorite spot of ours, provided fitting scenery.   Each family had a 20 minute slot and we bounced from shoreline to boathouse and achieved some great results.   See for yourself.

Photoshoot with Khalil Shaheed

Hey everyone,

A recent development for e&b photography has had a lot to do with a non profit jazz workshop in the Oakland area.   Recently, Khalil Shaheed the director of Oaktown Jazz Workshops contacted us with a need for a photographer to document a recent guest appearance at one of their lessons.   Khalil needed documentation of the session in order to promote the workshop and gain funding for a great youth program.  I was happy to oblige with the idea that this shoot would be pro-bono and would help the youth in Oakland to have access to a free music program.

Shortly thereafter,  Khalil phoned me with need for promotional shots of him in an Oakland location that would be used on a new promotional website.  Khalil and I met at Middle Harbor Park near the Port of Oakland.  Where incidentally Khalil promotes a large summer jazz festival hosting a variety of jazz musicians from near and far.   Below are a few photos from the workshop and the portrait session that followed.

Helping local organizations is what it is all about.  e&b photography will always be willing to help out for a good cause.

Andrea and Mike’s Wedding

Andrea and Mike, a couple of East coast natives turned LA residents, hooked us for their Bay Area wedding.  The ceremony took place at Our Lady of Lourdes Cathedral in Oakland.  Reception was to be shot at Riva Cucina in the Berkeley warehouse district.   The ceremony was a traditional Catholic event and an overall small gathering of folks.  Afterwards, we had initially planned to photograph the wedding party around Lake Merritt but due to construction we were forced to come up with something on the fly

After much consideration, we arrived on Middle Harbor park near the Port of Oakland.  This location provided great views of the bay and pleased the wedding party to no end.   Tim, the best man, a former Coast Guard sailor was ripe with information regarding the docks and their workings.  Even though changing locations was stressful,  Chris and I rolled with punches and yielded great results.

The reception which followed was filled with wonderful people and thanks to B.M.O.C. Rocco all parties had a memorable experience.

More weddings to come this Summer.

Stay up.

Foxtails Brigade

Hey folks,

Recently I did a shoot for a San Francisco based band called Foxtails Brigade.   An experimental folk group with guitarist/vocalist Laura Weinbach and violinist Sivan Sadeh.   We met up in the Presidio National Monument,  an old military base turned national park.   The location and weather yeilded some pretty cool results that I hope will represent the band’s music and style well.   Photos will be put to use in print publications and their new full length album coming out soon.

Check out more of the photos on the ‘Foxtails’ myspace here.

Shooting music is just another facet of our passion for photography here at e&b.  We look forward to working on more projects with ‘Foxtails’ and other bands in the Bay Area.

All the best,

Chris

As always one of the mainstays of the e&b photo sessions are family portrait work.  Recently Chris and I were hired to take some photos of a family in Oakland.  Its amazing that 80 percent of work in our third year is via reference.  A session from close to a year ago yielded the current shoot, I guess happy customers tell there friends and we have another opportunity to give quality work at an affordable price.  The session was slated up for an a.m. at one of our fave spots, Joaquin Miller park in the Oakland hills.  We arrived early and got oriented, shortly there after the family arrived.  Chris and I spent an hour and a half shooting up a storm.  The parents did their best to keep a young man and his older sister working, but kids want to be kids. Needless to say it helps that Chris and I have experience with kids and are able to shoot while running.  The results came out great and we have another set of happy campers on our hands. Be patient, friendly and shoot well is the mantra.  All in all good times and hopefully more satisfied customers!

Ici Ice Cream

ici blog chocolate

Further exploring the idea of editorial photography,  e&b pursued some local businesses with the idea of being on “assignment”.   The shots were done primarily for portfolio build and to be used by the businesses for advertising purposes.

Our first victim was Ici, an ice cream boutique located in the Elmwood district of Berkeley.   Ici’s claim to fame is it’s ever changing lineup of seasonal ice cream that’s hand made on location.   Mary Canales, one of the owners,  brought her sweet expertise from Chez Panisse,  a popular restaurant in the Gourmet Ghetto of Berkeley, California.   Ici ice cream has been written up any several publications ranging from Vogue to Edible East Bay.   Popularity of this small establishment is through the roof.   On any given evening one can see a line emerging from the shop and easily carrying on for a block.    Ice cream flavors are off the wall but regardless of your past ice cream experience going out on a limb at Ici is never regretted.

Working with the team at Ici was fun and productive.  Being able to shoot behind the scenes gave us new found respect for the art of making fresh ice cream on a daily basis.   We look forward to an on going relationship with Mary Canales and her establishment.

Thanks,

e&b

Getting past it.

session

So I go to the skate park with the idea of shooting. I do bring my board, of course, but again the main objective is PICTURES. As I enter the park a slight feeling of intimidation sets in…if I take out my camera how do I get started? If I ask to shoot will I get shut down, do I just start shooting and act like I own the place? Ugh…most of the time shooting is cake, you have an assignment and you do it, times like these are hard.  The type of guy I am is the respectful type, and so I ask…and of course people say “yea sure its cool” or “I have this kickflip on that hip over there, do you wanna get that.” Cake. The moral of the story, don’t let obstacles that you think are there stop you. Get that shot!

Welcome to the new blog,
