A Little Change of Pace

Hello hello,

Summer wedding season has officially kicked off and has left Christian and I in a whirlwind of activity. We’ve been busy preparing for upcoming weddings and diligently editing the final shots. We’ve been so busy planning this seasons events that we’d almost forgotten how calming it is to do new baby and family sessions. Here are some recent photos from one of our more relaxed shoots.

Khalil Shaheed Tribute

My friend Khalil Shaheed is a known figure in many circles. For those of you who aren’t aware he is a jazz musician who has played with many of the greats. One of Khalil’s greatest attributes is his desire to give back to his community, one of his greatest returns to the community is the Oaktown Jazz Workshop. This organization’s mission is to “promote, preserve, and present this music so that all youth, and especially African American youth, develop a sense of ownership and pride in jazz music as a uniquely American cultural tradition.” Recently the folks at KCSM and Yoshi’s assembled a fantastic group of jazz musicians to play a benefit for Khalil. The benefit concert was originally slatted up to pay tribute to a man who has played a big role in the jazz community at large as well as in and around Oakland. As the benefit drew closer, those organizing the event heard of Khalil’s most recent development and diagnosis with lung cancer. Proceeds from the benefit concert went towards helping the Shaheed family in their time of need. The event was fantastic and I felt privileged to have been invited. In an effort to help out an old friend, e&b photography will be donating all of the proceeds generated from print purchases to Khalil’s organization the Oaktown Jazz Workshop.

Sweet new albums available!

Hey there,

Christian and I are very excited to announce that we recently started providing clients with sweet new albums by Kiss Wedding Books. These flush mount albums by Kiss appeal to us and clients because of their crisp, clean presentation. Albums are available in several sizes and come in both leather or linen cover options. Each album is carefully assembled and features a lay flat binding and seamless page layout. This allows for a variety of creative layouts, one of which accommodates an image to span the gutter without interruption. Bottom line, Christian and I are excited to offer these great looking albums at an affordable price to all of our clients. Albums are not just for weddings!

Emily and Guy’s Wedding

Emily and Guy approached us on a referral from a friend. They were having a small event and their budget was tight. Chris and I met with them and went over the details of their event and we’re juiced to find that they were getting married at the Snow Building at the Oakland Zoo. Although not much was being asked of Chris and myself we did our best to capture the critical moments of the shortest wedding we’ve documented so far. The rabbi was a character of note. A friend of the family, he flew in from Florida and was a regular Bill Murray. When it was all said and done Emily and Guy were elated with the results and we were glad to be of service. Oftentimes events are short and budgets are tight but Chris and I are always willing to work with clients to provide the best results.

Michelle and Brandon eSession

Coming in off a referral from Franzel and Ramon, Chris and I headed to Sacramento, the capital of California, to document the coming together of Michelle and Brandon. Michelle is Ramon’s sister and it’s always nice to keep it in the family. Due to traffic snaggles on the 80, Chris and I broke Rule #1: “Don’t be late” but by breaking this rule we were able to see just how easy going and flexible this couple is. However, we love being on time and we quickly learned our lesson. After meeting up with Michelle and Brandon, we hopped in Brandon’s car and proceeded to the capitol building as our first destination. Two tone marble, fancy stairwells, and tour groups were waiting for us. After our visit to the capitol building, it was off to a 50’s style diner complete with jukebox, soda fountain, and a whole lot of neon. After the diner, Chris and I pushed for an outside location and we wound up at the theater promenade in Downtown Sacramento. Neither rain nor trolleys could stand in our way of getting cool shots.

Feel the Flo

Christian and I just got back from a studio where we shot up and coming Bay Area artist FLO. We met her at a Redwood City recording studio and caught her in action. Flo, who was hard at work putting the finishing touches on her latest single, did a great job working with us and both her producer, Rashaad Wiggins, and the studio engineer were very accommodating. While the session required some multitasking and the studio environment was a little ornery for the typical recording studio shoot; we were able to candidly document an artist at work.

Next week we will be working with FLO on some location shoots in San Francisco. The shoots will be providing content for social networking websites such as Twitter and Facebook, as well as her own website and promotional materials. Wrapping it up

With only two days left in the year, Christian and I decided to sit down and recap our work in 2009, one of our busiest years thus far. This past year has seen us photograph everything from family portraits, weddings, gourmet eateries, live bands, seminars, and engagement sessions. Four years ago when Christian and I started e&b we set out with an idea to photograph anything and everything and not just specialize in one area. In 2009, that idea became reality.

Franzel and Ramon eSession

Hey Everyone,

A few weeks back Christian and I met up with Franzel and Ramon, some future wedding clients of ours. After viewing some pretty cool venues for their September wedding in San Francisco, we took off around the city and began their engagement session. We visited the Presidio National Park, the Palace of Fine Arts, and San Francisco’s Pier 39.

As photographers in the Bay Area, we feel pretty lucky to have access to killer locations around Oakland and San Francisco. You can reach a great photo spot in no time and have great results.
